What Are Those?

Some people got money on their mind, but I have sneakers on my mind. It is all I have been thinking about for the past few weeks. Constantly checking Google, YouTube and stores like Footlocker, Snipes and JD SportsAll because one day I went shopping and suddenly realized that I got so out of touch with what was happening in the sneaker world. Like Boost. Boost what?!? (Answer, link here). It was like I was sleeping beauty waking up from a long sleep only to find that sneakers were not only been worn as street wear, but in the boardroom as well.

So, there I was needing to dive back into the world of kicks to find out what I have missed out on. Let just say, it is a great year to be part of the sneaker culture. The releases scheduled are truly dope (link here). For me it all started with the brand with the 3 stripes. I won't call myself a Sneakerhead, but as an Adidas lover that has already been the outlet next to Adidas HQ in Germany that also has a pair of customized MiAddias. I must say I truly heart trainers.

Adidas - Mi Samba

When it comes to crepes I might be categorized as a purist. I love me the Stan Smiths, the Superstars. Give a new colorway in these models and I am happy lady. But times has changed and so have I. While I will always have a special place in my heart for Adidas. I am open to other brands. Just last Christmas I copped my first Air Jordan brand trainers.

Jordan 1 Flight low

Now on the hunt for new a pair of kicks, I have been eying the Jordan 3’s Retro OG basketball shoes, Reebok Club C 85 and Workout Plus tennis shoes, The Pharrell x adidas Tennis HU and the Filling pieces Low Top Ripple Tonal Beige.

Which crepes are looking forward to looking forward to? Let me know in the comments.

OOTD: African Inspired

Nothing like going shopping during the Winter sale to make you feel inspired to write a blog post. I do not even remember the last time I did an Outfit Of The Day (OOTD). I do have several outfits, I would have liked to have shown on the blog, however not having someone there to take you picture makes it a bit more difficult and using a timer is just not as much fun.

But this time the outfit was to lovely for me not to blog about it. During my trip to New York, (read about it here) I visited a small shop in the an Afro-Caribbean neighbourhood in Brooklyn, where I spotted skirts with African prints. The colours were fresh and lively. I just knew I had to try one one.

When I looked in the mirror after trying on the skirt, the first thing it did was put a smile on my face. While the gloomy weather outside was making me feel the opposite the skirt has the opposite effect. After trying on different skirt, I ended up buying two. One of which I really wanted to show off on the blog.

I must say it really does not bother me that Summer is well behind us and that colder days are ahead, where almost everyone tend to wear darker colours. Sometimes you just should wear what makes you happy. Reminded me of the quote about fashion and expressing yourself.

Holiday Gifts

With Christmas slowly fading into our memory and now everyone preparing for the new year, with parties and new years resolutions, the holiday season is almost over. But hopefully you are having an amazing holiday season. My season was filled party, food, Netflix and last but not least gifts, which I would like to share in this post.

My gifts included of jewellery and make-up, two of almost every woman favourite things. The jewellery was multilayer beaded necklace from Belgian jewellery brand Chartage and a M.A.C. lipstick from the 2017 Winter Collection called Snow Ball. Both are so beautiful, I cannot wait to try them on.

Another gift was a vinyl record of the new album from Kesha called Rainbow. Before this album, I had always thought of Kesha as a club hits pop artist. But after hearing a few of her singles from the album, I just fell in love with her new music and I guess alot of other people as well as she has now been nominated for the 2017 Grammy's in the category best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album.

Let me know in the comments, what gift you received.

Happy Holidays !

Roadtrip to Washington D.C.

Winter has officially started and on cold days like these, when I am walking in city wearing a winter jacket, a thick scarf and gloves. My mind drifts away to the warm sunny days when I was in Washington D.C.

White House

In my last post, I talked about my holiday to New York. But during my trip, I also visited Washington D.C. Growing up watching American television, I had seen a lot of movies and series about Washington D.C. and because of this, I really looked forward to seeing the city and its famous buildings and landmarks.

First stop during my visit was to the United States Capitol. I love how the Capitol Dome is visible from different parts of the city.

United States Capitol

Next to the Capital there is the beautiful United States botanic garden. It was impressive to see so many plants from different parts of the world in one place.

From the Capitol, there is the National Mall, a park that directly connects to the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. It is a beautiful location to sit and relax or maybe even have a picnic. When you are in the park it feels like your in the center of Washington D.C. overlooking all the monuments.

With 19 museums in Washington D.C. It is hard to spend some time there and not visit at least one museum. Being of Afro-Caribbean descent, as soon as I heard that there was an African American museum, I knew I had to visit it. This because the history of African Americans is deeply connected to that Afro-Caribbeans.

The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History And Culture

The visit to the African American History And Culture gave me a deeper understanding of the relationship between the history of forced African migration and its impact in culture. That even though slavery has been abolished. There are customs and traditions passed down through generations like for example story telling, cooking and sewing which are a big part of African-American and Afro-Caribbean culture that is directly tied to the lifestyle of slaves and ex-slaves.

A trip Washington DC is not complete without a visit to the White House, official residence of the President of the United States. To my shock, the White House was much smaller than I had expected. On television it always seemed so big as most of the time it would take up the entire screen, but having been to the London and visited the Buckingham Palace, I was quite underwhelmed seeing the White House. But I guess, I should not be comparing a house to a palace.

While I reminisce on my holiday in the United States this year. I also look forward to the adventures ahead in 2018.

Happy Holidays !

Visiting The Big Apple

Greetings Fashionista's!

If you follow me on Instagram (link here) you have probably seen some of my pictures of my visit to New York City. It was a short of holiday of two weeks, but as New York City is know as the city that never sleeps, I saw and did some much that it felt like a months holiday. It is now two weeks later that I am back and I finally feel that I have recovered from the exhaustion of being out and about from 7 in the morning to 2 at night everyday for two weeks straight. And that is not including get lag. But if I had to choose I would do it all over again. You just do not go to New York to stay all day laying in your hotel room. The rush you get when you are there, makes it feel like the hour is just flying by.

Here are some of my favourite pictures.

Time Square by night

Midtown Manhattan was where I spent most of my time. Being on Time Square and looking at the famous Time Square ball awaiting it's moment to shine and drop on new years eve, watching people hailing down yellow taxi cabs. People in evening dresses going to musicals. Street vendors selling fake Prada & Louis Vuitton. Having dinner in the middle of time square at Olive Garden are some of my favourite memories of Manhattan.

Left to right: view of Lower Manhattan, Chrysler building, Olive Garden restaurant looking over the theatre districht, Unisphere at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens New York. Arthur Ashe Stadium tennis court.

During my holiday I went to the US Open to see the 2017 women's and men's semifinal. Watching the defending champion and world highest ranked tennis player Rafael Nadal from Spain was e real treat. And seeing American CoCo Vandeweghe currently ranked number 20th beating Karolina Pilskavo world's highest ranked was super unexpected, but so much fun watch.

Left to right: In front of Arthur Ashe world lagerst tennis stadium, Statue Of Liberty, view of New York City from Staten Island Ferry. Rebuilt One World Trade Center also know as Freedom Tower,

I was also able to visit the 9/11memorial and the rebuilded 1 world trade center also known as freedom tower and spend some time catching up with my childhood friend who know lives in New York City. All in all I had the most amazing time in New York, New York.

Stay tuned for part 2 post of my visit to Washington DC.

A Day At The Beach

One of the reason for including "Other Stories" in my blog, is that sometimes, I visit places and/ or do things that are not fashion related. One of those things was me visiting Kijkduin with a friend this past weekend. Kijkduin is a Dutch seaside resort in the city of The Hague.

I was super excited as I have been there before. On the day we went it was a bit cloudy, but upon arriving I could not help but feel happy and relaxed. The smell and wind of the beach made me feel like I had no care in the world, that life is simple and the world if full of endless possibilities.

I could not leave there without taking a few pictures of the amazing view and of course the outfit I wore that day.

Dresscode for the day was sporty comfy. With MyJourney2GoodHealth I started enjoying many activities I would have not before. It is funny to see that I now consider an afternoon walking on the beach as much fun as a lazy Sunday laying on the couch watching TV.

My pictures do not do justice to how amazing beautiful the place is. I recommend visiting Kijkduin to everyone and if you do not live in The Netherlands any beach will do. Even if it is too cold to swim, just walking on the coast is a wonderful experience in itself.

I hope you have a wonderful Summer.
